COVID-19 Business Insurance Claims
The COVID-19 pandemic did not only claim lives but also affected livelihood. Approximately 370,000 businesses were affected in the United Kingdom, particularly businesses that operate in the leisure, retail or hospitality sectors. Are you one of these businesses that have likely suffered significant financial losses from the disruption caused by COVID-19? Have you purposively reviewed the coverage of your business insurance policy to see if it can help alleviate the impact of those losses?
Do I have a COVID-19 Business Interruption (BI) claim?
Does your business’s BI insurance policy:
- include “non-damage” extensions to the core BI insurance cover?
- have any of the following considered “wordings”?
a. disease
b. prevention of access/public authority
c. hybrid
If any of these apply to your Business Interruption policy, you may be entitled to claim.
How to file for a claim?
You have two options in filing for a claim:
1. The starting point is to follow the claims procedure set out in your insurance policy. This usually includes a requirement to notify an insurer of a potential claim as soon as possible. You may also wish to inform your broker (if this is not already a requirement of the claims procedure) and it is advisable to retain all documents and records that evidence and/or relate to the claim.
